Hello and welcome to Related by Love. Thank you for taking the time to come see what Related by Love is about and how I started it.
It began on a spring day in 2013, when my oldest son and his then significant other announced they were getting married. I remember, like it was yesterday. There was an ache in my stomach and a knot in my throat; a feeling like none I’ve ever felt before. My oldest child was leaving ‘me’, leaving his family of origin. She was ‘taking’ him away from us. Am I alone here, or have you too been in this exact spot? Can you relate?
Because I love my children with my whole heart, and I want them to be happy and healthy and above all, I want all I do to be done in love. I knew I needed to develop a positive coping mechanism, one that would help me find peace, genuine love and respect with their decision to marry and create a family of their own.
I quickly applied my spiritual teachings, “call those things that are not as though they were” and “life and death are in the power of the tongue” to my ambivalent emotional state. My intent was a calculated and purposed decision when I began referring to the wife-to-be as my daughter-in-love, and not as my daughter-in-law. As this reference flowed from my heart and rolled effortlessly off of my tongue, it began to help me reduce the stress and anxiety of losing a child to embracing and welcoming a daughter-in-love and her family.
I soon realized two families were joined together by one love. We were now, connected; Related by Love.
I started Related by Love, because letting go and ever changing family dynamics can sometimes be difficult (amiright?)
